**[준비 서류 — Chan Wai Man 명의]**

|---|---|

**Kang Mo Yeon.**

English

The one Sujin met again was the same person who had got her a passport five years before.

"I need a face to sit in a video call."

"What is it for."

"Fifteen minutes with the registered agent in Hong Kong. Say a name in English, pretend to sign, answer a few questions they ask to check, and it is done."

The other end went quiet for a moment.

"...There are people who do that kind of work. They are expensive."

"How much."

"Two thousand a job."

Sujin ran the numbers for a moment. What she had on hand would not stretch far. To do all three companies she needed at least two directors for each.

"One will do. I will push the rest through on paper."

> **[Documents Prepared — in the name of Chan Wai Man]**
>
> | Item | Details |
> |---|---|
> | Passport copy | Hong Kong SAR passport (forged) |
> | Proof of address | Electricity bill (forged) |
> | Signature sample | Rebuilt from Dogyeong's memory |
> | Video check | One stand-in |

Sujin sat up three nights making the papers.

The passport was the hardest. The birth date and the leading digits had to match what the real register still held. Even the traces of a recent renewal had to look natural.

*This will do.*

The problem was the signature.

What Dogyeong had given her from memory was only a rough shape. "The end trails downward, and a circle is drawn around the first letter." That much.

On that description alone Sujin drew it some thirty times. Then a different thought came to her.

*No. This does not have to match the original.*

The signature left on the old register was six years old. A person's signature changes as the years go by. If anything, a signature that was **close enough, but never exactly the same,** was the natural one.

*Too exact and it draws suspicion.*

Sujin settled the signature by that rule. It was a signature about seventy percent like the real one.

>
> | Item | Details |
> |---|---|
> | Date and time | 10 a.m., Hong Kong time |
> | Other party | Compliance officer, B Consulting |
> | Purpose | Confirming a director's resignation and a new appointment |
> | Expected length | Fifteen minutes |

On the day, Sujin sat out of frame.

The man who sat in as the **stand-in** was Hong Kong Chinese, in his fifties. He came close enough to the age of the Chan Wai Man on the papers.

The call went through.

The officer was all business. The passport had to be held up to the camera, and the name and the date of birth were checked off.

So far it was going smoothly.

Then, turning over a page of the papers, the officer asked.

"What is the reason for the resignation from the directorship?"

There was an answer ready. Health reasons.

The stand-in gave it.

The officer nodded, then threw out the next question.

"During your time as a director of Orca Holdings, how many major resolutions were there?"

*...What?*

Sujin's fingertips went stiff.

It was a question she had not prepared for. It was not information the public register carried.

The stand-in glanced at Sujin, out of frame.

Sujin thought fast.

*This is a trap question.*

A shell company could not have any real resolutions to speak of. The usual thing was one routine **resolution** a year, filed for form's sake.

The problem was the count. Six years meant six times. But the first year after it was set up might have been a half year, and there might have been a year skipped in between.

*Give an exact number and that is what looks wrong.*

Sujin spoke low into her earpiece.

The stand-in took the words as they came and gave them to the camera.

"Well, now. I was only a **nominee** on the register, so the actual work was handled on the agent's side. I signed whenever a request came in, so I do not remember the count."

The officer stared at the screen for a moment.

*Right. They are all like that, these people.*

That was Sujin's calculation. Ghost directors like this know nothing to begin with. Knowing nothing was the normal thing. It was the one who answered smoothly who would look strange.

"...Understood."

The officer put a check on the form.

"Please sign the letter of resignation."

The stand-in drew the signature that had been prepared. It was a signature about seventy percent like the real one.

The officer checked it on screen and moved on without any particular remark.

"We will process it. It takes five business days for the register to be updated."

The call ended.

Sujin looked at the screen for a long while.

*Done.*

The first company, Orca Holdings. The director had been replaced.

The name of the new director belonged to a real person. It was one of the people Sujin had known in the back alleys, someone who took a certain amount of money and lent out a name. And that person had already written Sujin a general power of attorney.

> **[Progress]**
>
> | Company | Director replaced | Signatory changed | Status |
> |---|---|---|---|
> | Orca Holdings | Done | In progress | ● |
> | Saint River Partners | Waiting | — | ○ |
> | Blue Anchor Capital | Waiting | — | ○ |

The other two had no video check in the procedure. Singapore and the Cayman Islands still ran on paper **verification**.

And the names sitting in the directors' seats at those two—

Sujin opened the register. She read the name at the top of the list of directors for Saint River Partners, and her hand stopped.

**Kang Mo Yeon.**

*...Why is this person's name up here.*

The look in Sujin's eyes went cold and still.

Five years earlier, Jihoon had not stopped at moving the money out under Moyeon's name. He had driven that name into a director's seat at the company the money only passed through in the middle as well.

*He set it so that if this blows up, she takes all of it.*

Sujin looked at the name on the screen for a long time.

The face she had pushed away by force for five years came back up.

The way to do it was simple.

Here too she only had to make a letter of resignation, the same as the other two. It was a place with paper verification only. She had seen that signature hundreds of times on the sign-off papers five years before, and she could have drawn it with her eyes shut.

Sujin opened a blank form. The cursor blinked in the signature field.

Her hand would not move.

*What was it I did five years ago.*

She had copied this person's signature and built papers in this person's name. And where those papers took this person, she still does not know.

*And I am going to do that again?*

Sujin looked at the cursor for a long time, then closed the window.

*Find another way.*

Saint River Partners was the **pass-through** company in the middle. It was a place the money had passed through for a moment, not a place where a balance sat now.

Sujin drew the flow of the money again.

> **[Route Redesign]**
>
> | Stage | Old route | Revised route |
> |---|---|---|
> | Stage 1 | Orca Holdings | Orca Holdings |
> | Stage 2 | Saint River Partners | (bypass) |
> | Stage 3 | Blue Anchor Capital | Blue Anchor Capital |

All she had to do was build a new contract relationship running straight from Orca to Blue Anchor. It would take longer, and it would take twice the papers.

*Even so, this name I do not touch.*

Sujin opened a new window.

*This time I am not doing that.*
