43화 열쇠

목요일 아침, 태경이 은호를 불렀다.

"어제 자료실 일요."

"…네."

"미안해요. 말투가 좀 그랬어요."

은호가 고개를 저었다. "괜찮아요."

"안 괜찮았을 텐데."

태경이 잠깐 말을 골랐다. 그러곤 책상 서랍에서 작은 열쇠를 꺼냈다.

"통관 대행사에서 연락 왔죠. 잠긴 서랍 때문에."

"네."

"열쇠 여기 있어요." 태경이 그걸 은호 쪽으로 밀었다. "은호 씨가 확인하고, 시설팀에 답 주세요."

은호가 열쇠를 봤다가 태경을 봤다.

"제가요?"

"네."

"안에 뭐 있는지 안 물어봐도 돼요?"

"물어봐도 돼요." 태경이 담담하게 말했다. "근데 지금은 대답 못 해요."

은호는 잠깐 그 말을 곱씹었다.

*말 못 한다고 하세요. 그건 괜찮아요.*

자기가 했던 말이었다.

"…알겠어요." 은호가 열쇠를 집었다. "그럼 저 안 열어볼게요. 시설팀엔 제가 확인했다고 할게요."

태경이 고개를 들었다.

"열어봐도 돼요."

"아뇨." 은호가 웃었다. "대리님이 언제 말할지는 대리님이 정하는 거잖아요."

On Thursday morning, Taekyung called Eunho over.

"About yesterday. In the archive room."

"…Yes."

"I'm sorry. The way I said it."

Eunho shook his head. "It's fine."

"It probably wasn't."

Taekyung chose his words for a moment. Then he took a small key from his desk drawer.

"The customs broker contacted us. About the locked drawer."

"Yes."

"Here's the key." He pushed it across. "You check it, and answer Facilities."

Eunho looked at the key, then at him.

"Me?"

"Yes."

"I don't have to ask what's in it, do I?"

"You can ask what's in it," Taekyung said evenly. "But I can't answer right now."

Eunho turned that over for a moment.

*Just say you can't tell me. That's fine.*

His own words.

"…All right." He picked up the key. "Then I won't open it. I'll tell Facilities I checked."

Taekyung looked up.

"You can open it."

"No." Eunho smiled. "When you tell me is yours to decide."
