45화 남은 시간

4월이 됐다.

인수인계는 순조로웠다. 너무 순조로워서 이상할 정도였다. 태경은 하루에 서너 시간씩 은호와 붙어 앉아 하나하나 넘겼다. 2주 동안 거리를 뒀던 사람이라고는 믿기지 않을 만큼.

은호는 그게 좋으면서도 불안했다.

*이렇게 다 넘기고 나면, 이제 뭐가 남지.*

금요일 저녁, 마지막 항목을 넘기고 나서 태경이 말했다.

"이제 다 넘겼어요."

"…네."

"모르는 거 있으면 연락해요. 시차는 한 시간밖에 안 나요."

"네."

"그리고—" 태경이 잠깐 멈췄다. "6월에 파견 공고 나면, 지원할 거예요?"

은호가 고개를 들었다.

"…물어보시는 거예요, 아니면 지원하라는 거예요?"

"물어보는 거예요."

"그럼 저도 물어볼게요." 은호가 태경을 봤다. "제가 지원하면, 좋으세요?"

태경이 아무 말도 하지 않았다.

한참 뒤에야 짧게 답했다.

"…지금은 대답 못 해요."

은호가 웃었다. 서운한데 웃음이 나왔다.

"알겠어요. 그건 괜찮아요."

April came.

The handover went smoothly. So smoothly it was almost strange. Taekyung sat with Eunho three or four hours a day, transferring things one at a time. It was hard to believe this was the same person who had kept his distance for two weeks.

Eunho liked it and was uneasy at the same time.

On Friday evening, after the last item, Taekyung said,

"That's everything."

"…All right."

"Contact me if anything comes up. The time difference is only an hour."

"All right."

"And—" He paused. "When the posting opens in June, are you going to apply?"

Eunho looked up.

"…Are you asking, or are you telling me to?"

"Asking."

"Then I'll ask too." Eunho looked at him. "If I apply, would that be good for you?"

Taekyung said nothing.

It was a long moment before he answered briefly.

"…I can't answer that right now."

Eunho laughed. It stung, and the laugh came anyway.

"All right. That's fine."
