English
Five months before Sujin joined Taesan Group.
The penthouse living room. Moyeon sat on the sofa, and across from her sat Jihoon.
"I came to make you a proposal."
Jihoon said this, opening his briefcase. He was Director Jihoon, the M&A specialist the group had brought in from outside — a man who had been with the company only a few months.
"To me?"
"There's an account registered under Managing Director Kang Moyeon's name. You know the one."
The tips of Moyeon's fingers **stiffened**, just slightly.
> **[The Account in Question]**
>
> | Item | Details |
> |---|---|
> | Holder | Kang Moyeon |
> | Balance | Approx. 50 billion won |
> | Nature | Group slush fund (held under a borrowed name) |
> | Actual Control | The Chairman and the finance line |
"You only lent your name to it. If anything goes wrong, it's all built to land on you, Managing Director."
Jihoon's tone was even. It was a fact Moyeon already knew.
"So?"
"Take that money."
Moyeon did not smile. She did not look surprised, either.
"Why would I?"
"Because you could leave this house."
At that single line, something shifted in Moyeon's eyes for the first time.
Jihoon did not miss it.
"Next month you'll go to that marriage meeting, and you'll be handed over to that family. It'll be the same there. Smiling when you're told to, living exactly as you're told."
"......"
"In the end only the name of the person watching you changes. Your life still isn't yours, is it?"
"With that money, it's different. You could live in a country where no one knows you, without asking anyone's permission."
Moyeon looked out the window. Seoul's night view spread out below, dazzling as always.
She had come into this house at eight, and in the twenty-one years since, she had never once lived a single day by her own will. When to smile, when to cry, what to wear, who to meet — all of it had already been decided for her.
"What are the terms?"
Moyeon asked. Her voice had dropped low.
"Half and half."
Moyeon did not answer right away. Instead, she looked straight at Jihoon.
"Why should I trust you, Jihoon?"
"......"
"Once this is over, you could just hand me over too. Making the account holder disappear would be the cleanest way to close it."
Jihoon looked at Moyeon for a moment, then let out a short laugh.
"I knew you'd ask that."
He took an envelope from his inside pocket and slid it across the table.
> **[Collateral Document]**

> |---|---|
> | Document | Original of a side contract |
> | Contents | Instructions to execute the fund transfer and the profit-split agreement |
> | Signature | Jihoon (handwritten) |
> | Held By | Kang Moyeon |
"My signature is on it. You keep it, Managing Director."
Moyeon opened the envelope and checked its contents.
"With this, I could bring you down whenever I wanted."
"That's right. We each hold a **leash** on the other."
Jihoon said this evenly.
"I need your name. You need my signature. Whichever of us **betrays** the other first, we both go down together."
Moyeon closed her hand around the envelope.
It was reasonable. This man was negotiating with a knife hung against his own throat.
*This will do.*
Moyeon nodded.
"...And?"
"I need one more person."
"Someone to make the documents."
Jihoon took out a tablet and brought up a screen.
"To move the account, we need a **power of attorney**, an account-opening application, a transfer approval form — all of it, and clean enough to pass an audit. If I touch any of it myself, I get traced right away. And if you do it, that's even worse."
"So you mean to use an outsider."
"Use them, and leave them behind."
Moyeon lifted her head.
"What do you mean, leave them behind?"
"Every trace left on the documents becomes theirs. Once it's over, they take all of it with them. And the two of us become people who knew nothing."
Moyeon said nothing for a moment.

> | Operator | Outside hire (handles forgery) |
> | Operator's Pay | 5 billion won (promised only) |
> | Closing Method | Everything attributed to the operator; handed over to investigators |
"What happens to that person?"
"Who knows. They'll find a way to survive. That's the kind of work they've always done."
Jihoon shrugged.
Moyeon knew exactly what that answer meant. And she knew exactly what choice she was about to make.
*So someone is going to prison.*
A corner of her chest went cold. But the cold did not last long.
*If it means I can get out of here.*
Since she was eight, Moyeon had learned only one thing: to survive, you had to calculate everything.
"The list?"
Moyeon asked.
Jihoon **swiped** through the tablet. A few profiles passed by in order — a former accountant, a former legal-team employee, some with criminal records already.
Then, on one screen, Moyeon's hand stopped.

Family: none.
Moyeon stared at that one line for a long time.
*So there's no one to come looking for her.*
No family to complain if things went wrong. No one to look for her if she disappeared. She fit exactly what Jihoon needed.
"Let's use her."
Moyeon said this. There was no emotion at all in her voice.
Jihoon smiled, satisfied.
"As expected. You have a good eye."
Moyeon handed back the tablet and turned her gaze to the window. She thought she had already erased the face on the screen from her mind.
At the time, that was exactly what she thought.
