With a single sheet of paper, a person who had never existed became an employee of Taesan Group.
Moyeon opened the notice in the penthouse. It was the signal that Jihoon had finished his preparations.
*So it has begun.*
Moyeon checked the name on the screen one more time. Lee Sujin — the face she had seen on the tablet.
*Eight months exactly — would that be enough?*
It was the span Jihoon had calculated. The time the forged papers would take, and the time this woman would need before the company stopped seeing her as new.
That afternoon the doorbell rang.
Moyeon went out in the loose knit she was already wearing, and she had put on no makeup. Moyeon knew that a woman whose clothes and face are perfect from the first moment makes the other person **wary** instead of open.
"You can just leave it there."
She said it with her back still turned, her voice lazy, as if none of it interested her.
Sujin turned around, and in that instant Moyeon saw the step stop.
Then the breath came out a beat late. She started to say something and could not, and her eyes swung once with nowhere to settle.
*Heh.*
Moyeon laughed inside before she could stop herself.
*What is that reaction?*
She had looked like someone who came out of rough work, and now she stood as stiff as a new hire sent on a first errand.
The reaction itself was familiar. Moyeon also knew what usually came after it.
The look that runs over you, the sum that follows, and then the price — to **appraise** someone is just that, to put a price on what you see.
But the Assistant Manager in front of her never moved on to that part.
She froze, and then she looked away.
"Lee Sujin. I am from the Planning Department, starting today."
Sujin held out the tablet and tipped her head. The **formality** stopped exactly there — no bow, no title, nothing further.
*Not much for manners.*
Moyeon found the rudeness interesting rather than offensive. Everyone else who came through Taesan folded at the waist to ninety degrees. They bent like that and dug for whatever they could take away behind her back.
This one was the opposite. Her back stayed straight while her eyes kept sliding away.
Moyeon sat down on the sofa, crossed her legs, and tapped the seat beside her with her fingertips.
"The papers. Here."
Closing the distance was the most basic method there was. When people come physically closer, the line they keep in their minds blurs at the same time.
Sujin came around behind the sofa and leaned down.
A breath brushed the back of Moyeon's neck.
*She is nervous.*
Moyeon read the small reaction exactly. The breathing of the person behind her quickened, and the fingertips swiping the screen stiffened a little.
"These figures here. Are they right?"
She asked it lightly, on purpose. Keeping any feeling out of her voice was the important part.
"...Yes. They are correct."
The voice that came back was lower than usual.
*Interesting.*
Moyeon turned her head a little, a movement that closed the distance by another hand's width. The angle was **deliberate**, an angle which she had measured before she moved.
"Why does your voice sound like that?"
"It is nothing."
Sujin answered with her eyes fixed on the screen.
Moyeon stole a short look at the profile. The impression was a little different from the one she had formed from the record on the tablet. The file said only 'document forgery, shell company design', and it said nothing about a face like this.
*I thought she was just someone who does rough work.*
Moyeon left her signature at the bottom of the screen. That meant the sign-off was done.
"Good work, Assistant Manager."
When the door closed, Moyeon finally straightened up in her seat.

*This much will do.*
Arranging in her head the sentences she would send to Jihoon, Moyeon walked to the window.
Eight months. In that time she had to grow close to this woman naturally, get the papers made, and hand everything over at the end. It looked easier than any part she had played so far.
Strangely, though, the look the woman had turned back with just before she went out the door kept catching at her.
People who came into this house usually had one of two looks. They were envious, or they measured how much they could take away.
That was neither.
*Was she feeling sorry for me?*
Moyeon shook her head at the thought.
*I must have read it wrong.*
Even if she had read it right, it made no difference. The woman was one piece picked off a list, **disposable**, a thing to be used once and dropped when the eight months were over.
*It should make no difference.*
*What was that look?*
Moyeon shook her head again. It was nothing. It was not the kind of thing that could touch the plan.
*Just hold out for eight months.*
Thinking that, Moyeon looked out the window. It was the night view she always saw.
