66화 마지막 출근

8월 29일, 은호의 마지막 출근일이었다.

책상을 정리하는 데 두 시간이 걸렸다. 1년 조금 넘게 앉은 자리인데 짐이 생각보다 많았다.

버릴 것과 가져갈 것을 나누다가, 서랍 맨 안쪽에서 작은 열쇠가 나왔다.

작년 여름에 받은 것이었다.

은호는 그걸 한참 손바닥에 올려놓고 봤다.

퇴근 무렵, 세연이 왔다.

"선배."

"응."

"인수인계 메모, 세 번째 항목이요."

"어."

"누가 구두로 요청하면 서면으로 달라고 하라는 거."

은호가 고개를 들었다.

"그거 왜 이유를 안 쓰셨어요?"

은호는 잠깐 생각했다.

"쓰면 그 사람 얘기가 되니까."

"근데 저는 그 사람이 누군지 모르는데요."

"그래서 안 쓴 거야." 은호가 웃었다. "네가 알 필요 없어."

세연이 뭔가 더 물으려다 그만뒀다. 그러곤 짧게 말했다.

"…고맙습니다."

은호는 짐을 들고 나오면서 3층을 한 번 봤다.

자료실이 있던 자리에는 회의실 두 개가 들어서 있었다.

August 29 was Eunho's last day in the office.

Clearing his desk took two hours. For a seat he had held a little over a year, there was more than he expected.

Sorting what to throw out and what to take, he found a small key at the back of a drawer.

The one he had been given the previous summer.

He held it in his palm and looked at it for a long time.

Near the end of the day, Seyeon came over.

"Eunho."

"Yes?"

"The handover note. The third item."

"Mm."

"About asking for things in writing when someone requests them verbally."

Eunho looked up.

"Why didn't you write the reason?"

He thought for a moment.

"Because writing it makes it about a person."

"But I don't know who the person is."

"That's why I left it out." Eunho smiled. "You don't need to know."

Seyeon looked as if she might ask something more, then didn't. She said only,

"…Thank you."

On his way out with his things, Eunho glanced at the third floor.

Where the archive room had been, there were now two meeting rooms.
