67화 캐비닛

8월 20일에 이사업체가 왔다.

은호는 짐을 다 싸두었다. 상자 열두 개와 캐비닛 하나.

캐비닛은 태경의 집에서 일주일 전에 가져왔다. 빈집이었다. 태경이 비밀번호를 알려줬고, 은호가 혼자 들어가서 그것만 가지고 나왔다.

수거 담당자가 목록을 확인하며 물었다.

"이 캐비닛, 맨 아래 서랍 잠겨 있다고 되어 있는데요."

"네."

"열쇠 같이 보내실 거예요, 아니면 비우실 거예요?"

은호는 주머니에서 열쇠를 꺼냈다.

작년 여름부터 갖고 있던 것이었다. 한 번도 쓰지 않은.

"…같이 보낼게요."

"열어서 확인 안 하셔도 괜찮으세요? 세관에서 열 수도 있는데요."

"괜찮아요."

담당자가 열쇠를 받아 캐비닛 손잡이에 케이블타이로 묶었다.

트럭이 떠나고 나서, 은호는 빈방에 한참 서 있었다.

*열 수 있었는데 안 열었다.*

그 사실이 이상하게 마음에 남았다.

The movers came on August 20.

Eunho had everything packed. Twelve boxes and one cabinet.

He had brought the cabinet from Taekyung's apartment a week earlier. The place was empty. Taekyung gave him the door code, and he went in alone and took only that.

Checking the inventory, the collection agent asked,

"This cabinet — it says the bottom drawer is locked."

"That's right."

"Are you sending the key with it, or emptying it?"

Eunho took the key from his pocket.

He had carried it since the previous summer. He had never used it.

"…I'll send it with the cabinet."

"You're all right not opening it to check? Customs may open it."

"It's fine."

The agent took the key and fastened it to the cabinet handle with a cable tie.

After the truck left, Eunho stood for a long time in the empty room.

*I could have opened it. I didn't.*

That fact stayed with him oddly.
